Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) launched on 2nd October, 2014
The strategies on SWM, LWM and FSSM for Kerala developed as part of the deliverable of the project "Consultancy to Provide Technical Assistance to SM and KRWSA in the Implementation of Rural Sanitation - Draft submitted
Rural Kerala was declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) on November 1, 2016. Kerala is the first state with high population density to achieve this recognition. About 174,720 toilets were constructed in 941 village panchayats across all the 14 districts.

Technical Support to KRWSA and Suchitwa Mission

CED  is providing  Technical Support to KRWSA and Suchitwa Mission for the Management Second Generation Sanitation needs of the State, Solid Waste and Liquid Waste Management.   Under the project  ‘Consultancy to Provide Technical Assistance to Suchithwa Mission and KRWSA in the Implementation of Rural Sanitation’,  CED has prepared Detailed Project Reports for implementing sanitation interventions in Local Bodies of Kerala.

DPR for the management of Septage generated in Mangalpady Grama Panchayat, Kasragod District Kerala,

DPR for Wastewater management system for Kumily Grama Panchayat , Idukki, District,  Kerala,

DPR for Integrated solid waste management system providing  total solution to the solid waste generated in Nenmara Grama Panchayat , Palakkad, Kerala are few among the DPRs prepared so far.

Centre for Environment and Development, Thiruvananthapuram (CED) is the Centre of Excellence (CoE) of Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India on“Solid Waste and Wastewater Management”. The main objective of the CoE is to develop (i) Strategy and Framework for Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Wastewater Management (WWM) in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of India (ii) Capacity Building and Training to different target groups and (iii) Establishment of a Knowledge Centre on Solid Waste and Wastewater Management.
