Look at waste as a resource, that’s the only way you’ll win the war against it
Gurgaon generates over 1,000 tonnes per day (TPD) of solid waste – of this, about 600- 700 TPD goes to the Bandhwari dumpsite. Set up in the heart of the Aravalis, the site recently received flak from the National Green Tribunal (NGT) for continuing waste-dumping there — ‘the leachate from it was flowing into underground aquifers, contaminating groundwater’ — the complainant had mentioned in a plea filed to the court. The Bandhwari site has become a health hazard and needs urgent sanitary cleaning up besides scientific ways of waste disposal. Also, waste-burning is a common practice, leading to release of harmful gases and triggering several health hazards.
