The strategies on SWM, LWM and FSSM for Kerala developed as part of the deliverable of the project "Consultancy to Provide Technical Assistance to SM and KRWSA in the Implementation of Rural Sanitation - Draft submitted
Rural Kerala was declared Open Defecation Free (ODF) on November 1, 2016. Kerala is the first state with high population density to achieve this recognition. About 174,720 toilets were constructed in 941 village panchayats across all the 14 districts.

CED Reports

Centre for Environment and Development as Centre of Excellence has conducted a series research and developed a handful of reports concerning SWM and WWM. Centre for Environment and Development, Thiruvananthapuram (CED) is the Centre of Excellence (CoE) of Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India on“Solid Waste and Wastewater Management”. The main objective of the CoE is to develop (i) Strategy and Framework for Solid Waste Management (SWM) and Wastewater Management (WWM) in the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) of India (ii) Capacity Building and Training to different target groups and (iii) Establishment of a Knowledge Centre on Solid Waste and Wastewater Management.
